The Gurkha Contingent (GC) is a line department of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) consisting primarily of Gurkhas from Nepal. The recruited Gurkhas are served for the role of special guard force and counter-terrorist force. They are trained to be highly skilled and selected based on their strong discipline and dedication in their tasks.​
Since its formation in 1949 with 142 men, the contingent has grown to over 1,800 in size in 2018. Nepali youth between age of 18 to 21 years are recruited in Nepal at the British Gurkha camp in Pokhara. And, around 350 are selected annually in December out of a pool of over 15,000 - 20,000 applications, split between the Gurkha Contingent and the British Army.​
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Registration
DOCUMENTATION:
The application form for Registration will be available at the Army Careers Center, Information Offices at British Gurkhas Pokhara and British Gurkhas Dharan. The PRs should bring the documents mentioned here on this site along with PT shorts and a black pen.

2. Regional Selection
Only those PRs who have submitted an application form and met the minimum criteria set out in above step will be allowed to attend Regional Selection either in Pokhara or Dharan. Different dates for attendance will be allocated as per the District registered by PR according to their NPP. The applicants must present original documents mentioned here.
Here, the applicants will go through following phases:
PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT:
• 800 Meter Run: Best effort under 2 mins and 40 sec
• Repeated Lift and Carry (short): 20kg burden carry from 1.5 platform over 30 meter followed by 30 m without burden. ( Best effort, 5 laps with burden, 4 without, in under 1 minute and 50 seconds)
• Over Arm Heaves: 12 times minimum with no time limit.
MEDICAL CHECK UP:
• B.P. Check
• Ear Check
• Eye Check ( Long Distance )
• Colour Vision Check
• Skin Check
• Teeth Check
• Body Functional Check
EDUCATION ASSESSMENT:
• Maths: 10 questions in Nepali languager
• English: 15 to 20 Questions
• Duration: 40 Mins combined for both Maths and English
INTERVIEW:
• Interviewer: Nepali and Gora or Chinese and Tamil Officer
• Language: Both Nepali and English
• Time: Approx 5 to 10 minutes
3. Central Selection​
Successful candidates at Regional Selection will be called forward for the Central Selection at british Gurkhas Pokhara Camp. During this period a series of physical, educational and medical assessments will be conducts. And Finally they get selected in this selection for Gurkha Army.
Here, the applicants will go through following phases:
PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT:
• BFT RUN: 2000 meter run under 8 minutes and 15 seconds
• Heaves: Minimum 12 times with no time limit
•Repeated Lift and Carry Long: 435 meters of distance with Lifting Height 1.5 meter and Burden of 20 kg (14 Laps with burden, 15 laps without burden) under 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Each Lap distance is 15 meters.
•Jerry Can Carry: 240 meters distance under 2 minutes and 10 seconds
•Doko Race ( C.F. T ): 5.8 km Distance under 50 minutes with 15 kg of load

• IQ TEST : A total of 60 questions to be solved under 20 minutes
INTERVIEW:
• Presentation & Interview in mostly Nepali language
• A total of 8 to 10 questions with time 3 to 5 minutes
• Conducted by Nepali, Gora and Chinese or Tamil Officers
